edLinked – The Staff and Student Portal

http://edlinked.waikato.ac.nz/ is the Faculty of Educations’ staff and student portal. It was created by the Faculty of Education Innovation and Technology Team, however it is open to any University of Waikato student.

Once logged in edLinked provides students access to a personalised list of their papers, paper resources like paper outlines, readings, podcasts of lectures, and access to University wide services like password changing, and viewing of grades. The University of Waikato promotes use of google applications like google docs and calendar to help with group collaboration and assignment work. The latest version (July 2013) includes paper announcements, electronic assignment submission and was rebuilt from the ground up to improve performance.

Google calendar can be used to keep track of assignment dates, lecture and tutorial times. Google docs can produce office like word documents, spreadsheets, even presentations.

How to access edLinked:

You will need to use Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari to view edLinked correctly. There are a lot of advanced features that Internet Explorer does not display correctly. You will get a message appearing at the top of the window with instructions to download another web browser, if you do login with Internet Explorer.

You login with your normal Waikato Username and Password. If you haven’t setup your Waikato account, you will need to visit the new user page first.

You can access edLinked by clicking on the logo on the left hand navigation – or in the top menu bar (top right)

Some useful tools in edLinked myhome:

  • direct access to Google Docs, Calendar and Gmail.
  • view your student grades.
  • submit your assignments online.
  • view practicum information, including School and Teacher contact details.
  • personalised listing of all enrolled papers.
  • direct access into Moodle.
  • access to change personal information in i.Waikato.
  • access to 1 card balance.
  • see announcements from your lecturers.
