Internationalisation in the Faculty of Education at the University of Waikato involves developing relationships both here and overseas as our commitment to enhancing our global connectedness. One important emphasis is the socio-cultural, encouraging diversity, tolerance, biculturalism, interculturalism and dialogue. These are vital components of citizenship as our New Zealand society has become more multi-cultural. Increasing intercultural understandings and dialogue enable us to address differences and conflict in respectful ways aiming for peace in our fractious world. Cultural understanding and competencies are important for students to build skills relevant for an increasingly globalised workplace. Internationalisation involves a range of international activities such as international institutional agreements for specific collaborations or co-operation and development projects that relate to teaching, learning and research, with the development of study abroad programs, and the establishment of specific courses here and overseas. Here in the Faculty of Education we encompass both aspects in terms of teaching and research.
