The Faculty of Education’s Information Centre has computer facilities available for students and staff to access the Internet, library databases, email, plus document creation, scanning, and printing. The Information Centre also has a 24/7 computer lab available to Education students only outside of normal business hours via a swipe-card access system. This facility is available to all Faculty of Education students and staff. It is located in the TL Block between Gate 4 & 5 on Hillcrest Road.
New students can access any computer facilities or services at the University including the wireless network only after they have activated their network accounts. To activate an account, students must have a Student ID Card and be enrolled in a course. Students can activate their accounts either online (https://tools.its.waikato.ac.nz/cgi-bin/newuser/newuser) or at one of several ID registration terminals located on campus (https://tools.its.waikato.ac.nz/newuser.html). An ID registration terminal is available near the Information Centre.
Printing is only available after your Student ID Card has been activated and money has been added to your Unicash balance. Unicash is an electronic balance, attached to your network account, used to pay for service like printing. You can top-up your Unicash balance at one of several eftpos kiosks or cash autoloader machines located around campus. There is both an e-pay kiosk and a cash autoloader located in the Faculty of Education Information Centre. Current balances can be checked online in Edlinked. The Faculty of Education has wireless coverage in all its classrooms and buildings. Lightwire is the external provider for student Internet access from computer labs and wirelessly from personal laptops and mobile devices. Students are allocated 1.5GB of data usage per month as part of their fees. New students must associate their new University network account with the Lightwire service in order to take advantage of this resource. Once their ID card has been activated and a user account created, students need to visit the Lightwire sign up page (https://www.lightwire.co.nz/manage/settings/setup.php), enter the requested details, and associate their University network account on the Lightwire administration page.
Students are required to change their account password every 180 days. You can update this password at the following link Password Changer. Never provide your password information to anyone else.
