The University of Waikato Faculty of Education is uniquely situated, geographically and institutionally, to provide leadership around many of the important issues facing education internationally in the 21st Century. After just fifty years the University is ranked as one of the top two percent of universities in the world, and has been identified internationally as “a world leading institution with the potential to become a future global leader.”

Our teaching staff are internationally connected and benchmarked against the best in the world, producing graduates who are globally competitive. Graduates are sought internationally because of a unique reputation for being student-centred, for treating students as individuals and for demonstrating a genuine concern for the students overall well-being.

The Faculty has a history of approaching problems in a novel way. There have been many firsts including initiatives such as early childhood qualifications, distance education programmes, and a range of Māori medium education programmes to ensure programmes are more engaging and culturally appropriate for indigenous learners of New Zealand and which are readily transferable to other cultural groups.
