Exploring young people’s views of the future: their hopes and fears for the environment

Project dates: September 2008 – September 2010
Project leader: Kathrin Otrel Cass
Project members: Chris Eames, Paul Keown and Ann Harlow

The focus of this project is to investigate young people’s hopes and fears of the future with a particular focus on the environment. This project is a replication of a study that has been conducted between 1988 and 1991 in Austria (Underbrunner, 1991), in 1996 in Switzerland (Hirsch-Hadorn et al, 1996) and is currently being repeated again in Austria. The New Zealand study will not only be compared with the Austrian sample but comparisons will be made from the outcomes of the New Zealand/Austrian findings in 2008 to those from 10 and 20 years ago.
